What Is OCPP? The Foundation of Charging Station Management
What Is OCPP?
OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) is an open protocol that standardizes communication between charging stations and central management systems. Developed by the Open Charge Alliance, OCPP allows chargers from different manufacturers to be controlled from the same management platform — freeing operators from vendor lock-in.
OCPP Versions
OCPP 1.6J: The most widely used version. Uses JSON over WebSocket and supports remote start/stop, firmware updates and tariff management. OCPP 2.0.1: Offers enhanced security, device management and ISO 15118 (Plug & Charge) support — recommended for next-gen stations.
What OCPP Does
Remote monitoring and control: View station status in real time. Tariff management: Update prices centrally. Payment integration: RFID, credit card and mobile payment. Reporting: Energy consumption, revenue and usage stats. Firmware updates: Update device software remotely. Fault management: Receive instant fault notifications.
ADZE Charge and OCPP
The ADZE Charge management platform fully supports OCPP 1.6J and OCPP 2.0.1. All ADZE chargers ship OCPP-compatible out of the box, so you can manage stations from a single panel, monitor in real time, update tariffs and pull detailed reports. Third-party OCPP-compatible devices can also integrate with the platform.
OCPP Benefits for Investors
Vendor independence: Manage devices from different brands on the same platform. Scalability: Easily add new stations. Future-proofing: New features can be added via software updates. Lower operating cost: Central management reduces site visits. Interoperability: Roaming agreements possible with different operators.
Sık Sorulan Sorular
Is OCPP mandatory?
There is no legal requirement, but for EPDK-compliant stations OCPP support is essentially required. Operating a station without a management platform is impractical.
What is the difference between OCPP 1.6 and 2.0?
OCPP 2.0 offers more advanced security, device management and Plug & Charge support. However, OCPP 1.6J is still the most widely used version and covers most needs.
Do different brand devices work on the ADZE platform?
Yes. Any OCPP-compatible device can connect to the ADZE Charge management platform.
